CDIB Capital Announces Senior Hires Marking The Commencement of its Structured Credit Group
Hong Kong, April 29, 2020CDIB Capital is pleased to announce the formation of its Structured Credit Group with three senior appointments to deliver on its growth strategy across Asia. The new team comes on the back of increasing opportunities CDIB Capital sees in the Asian private markets and provides more diversified strategies to its stakeholders and investors.
Mr. Tor Trivers joins as the Head of the Structured Credit Group, with two of his former investment colleagues from the Carlyle Group, where they successfully managed the Carlyle Asia Structured Credit Fund. The newly created structured credit team will aim to replicate the successful strategy and track record by continuing to focus on investing in high yielding, defensively structured secure transactions which deliver higher risk-adjusted returns compared to the public credit markets and other asset classes.
“I am extremely pleased to join CDIB with my team.” Mr. Trivers said. “We are well positioned to take advantage of the expanded opportunity set resulting from the current dislocation in the market. That plus the fact that private debt in Asia is far less saturated than the rest of the world creates a longer-term opportunity.”
Mr. Trivers brings with him 25 years of experience in leadership positions both in North America and Hong Kong. In his previous senior roles, he drove key agendas across the structured credit and secured lending businesses. Prior to heading the Asia Structured Credit Fund at the Carlyle Group, Mr. Trivers served executive positions at Natixis and Nomura in New York. He holds a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, USA.
Mr. June Yub Chen joins as Senior Vice President at CDIB Capital. He was previously with Carlyle where he served as Vice President, having joined in 2014. Before that, he also worked as a Senior Associate of the Structured Finance Department at KDB Daewoo Securities from 2007 in Seoul, South Korea. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Korea University in Seoul and is a CFA charter holder.
Mr. Kyu Jung Sim joins as Senior Vice President at CDIB Capital. Together with the team, Mr. Sim comes from Carlyle where he served as Vice President from 2015. Prior to Carlyle, Mr. Sim has served roles at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong (2007-2015) where he focused on leveraged and acquisition finance transactions across the Asia Pacific, and Macquarie Bank in Seoul, South Korea (2005-2007). He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Yonsei University in Seoul.
“These appointments reinforce our core strengths as we continue to develop our multi-platform model and expand both our investment and global distribution strategies across middle markets,” said Mr. Lionel de Saint-Exupéry, President of CDIB Capital. “Adding the Structured Credit Group, under Tor’s leadership, further expands CDIB’s investment capabilities. The timing is opportune given the downside protection and high cash yield provided by structured credit at this point of the economic cycle and a historically low interest rate environment.” He added that the team has already closed its first transaction consisting of a highly secured bond and stapled equity investment in a leading Korean consumer finance company.
